Powell River

We are now in Powell River and as luck would have it, grabbing a grande non-fat latte and wifi at what will likely be our last Starbucks before heading into Desolation Sound.  After leaving Princess Louisa Inlet and motoring out of the Jervis Inlet we dropped a hook in Ballet Bay at the entrance to the inlet for the night.  s/v Thor spent the night as well, but is heading off in another direction.  We will likley bump into them again, as they are also heading into Desolation Sound and then up to the Broughtons.  In the morning, we had a great sail after motoring out of the bay and then sailed wing on wing up the BC coast to Powell River.

We stayed at the government docks, which is extremely tight with little maneuvering room.  They wanted us to back into the end of the dock finger with a 15 knot wind on our beam blowing us off the dock.  I managed to pull it off, but not until after some very harrowing maneuvering and a little help from the dock mate.  We were able to spray all the salt water off the boat, refill the water tanks, do our laundry (quite a hike to the laundromat) and generally get the boat cleaned up.  We were exhausted, so opted to eat dinner ashore at what turned out to be a great Thai restaurant right across the street from the marina.

Today we are re-provisioning and getting the boat ready for the run into Desolation Sound.  We plan to leave in a few hours and head north and east into the Sound.  A bit of rain today and tomorrow, but dryer and warmer conditions following.  We expect it to be yet another incredible experience. We will post photos as usual of the adventure.
