Jones Island

Noon currents and 10-16 kt winds were favorable for sailing on a beam reach thru Spieden channel. Tacking up Spring Passage delivered us to Jones Island North Bay. We spent the night on the mooring ball.

We walked the perimeter hiking trail around the shore which had great views of the sound. On the south side there are several kayak campsites which include sheltered bunks and covered gathering spots. The island suffered a severe storm in the 90’s which knocked down massive amounts of timber. Most have been left in a natural state except to clear trails for safety of visitors. It is an amazing site to view the destruction and regeneration.

There were a few boats here when we arrived. Toward early evening all had gone except a small Lord Nelson Tug and another sailboat. The rain started as we headed back to Talos IV.

We are planning to enter Canadian waters within a day or two.

Stay tuned….
