We decided to leave earlier this morning to arrive early at Mound Island . It was a short hop of about 8 nm, the challenge was navigating Beware Channel. With a name like that you can imagine the possibilities. The time to transition this channel is low water to see the rocks and reefs. You must navigate in a serpentine manner around lots of obstacles visible and just below the water line. We were at a low water point and proceeded with low speed and multiple charts and backup. The navigation and pilotage was without fault, and we popped thru at Indian Channel to a wall of fog. The decreased visibility was worrisome enough to seek a temporary anchorage until the weather improved. We dropped anchor in Beware Bay which was just off our beam for approx 1 hour and drank hot chocolate. The skies opened a bit and we heard chatter on the radio from other boats approaching Beware Channel. Up with the anchor, we headed out. On the way out, we spotted a black bear working his way along the shore. When we arrived at the Mound Island , our anchorage site for the night, there was only one other vessel. Hooray!
We have our crab pot set, the rain is letting up and life is good.
It was a foggy morning and the channel was very narrow with lots of rocks and reefs. We waited it out in this little cove called Beware Cove. |
We spotted a black bear along the shore on the way out of Beware Cove. |
Due to the high cost and the hassel of hauling our trash around, we have taken to burning our paper trash on shore |
