We woke early but languished away the morning enjoying our cinnamon rolls, coffee and a quiet anchorage. Around noon the clouds started to lift and we could see sunlight peeking thru. We pulled anchor and headed back down Penphrase Passage. The sea was dead calm and the passage was alive with what we think were Mink whales. Entering Simoom Sound it was hard to imagine it as a major township of the 30’s thru 50’s. Now a huge aqua culture is in place of the town and no other sign of the people exists except for some abandoned logging cable up on shore in McIntosh Bay.
We found a good anchorage after moving thru the area awhile. It was pretty deep unless you got in real close. The weather was a real surprise. Once anchored the sun was in full force. It was almost hot. Paul was in shorts on deck and I took the dinghy out for a rowing adventure around to other inlets. I was looking for clam gardens but didn’t find any. The land we are anchored up against used to be a First Nation village before small pox wiped everyone out. We had enough warm temps to shower again on deck. We were good and secure for the night. We have not had any crab for several days now…….Not sure if it is fished out, too deep or the bottom is not good. Maybe tomorrow will bring better luck.
