Paul started the outboard without problem. This was our first dinghy adventure since the start of the trip. The state has done a great job of providing a dock for shore access. The hike took us past a very old school and the modern replacement. The modern building was still heated with wood burning stove. Everything was very tidy and the classroom (singular) looked like the kids had plenty of really cool lessons in process. Grade level is K-8. We headed on toward the lighthouse, passing the grass airstrip, deer and lots of birds. Our arrival at the lighthouse was met by a bald eagle which swooped out of a nearby fir tree. He was huge!

Very cool! I was able to catch up on the blog posts as they suddenly all became available this afternoon. Sounds like you are having a great time so far. Stuart Island must be especially nice to visit since there is no other way to reach but by boat. How did you like Roche Harbor? Weather seems so northwest. I hope you are enjoying the sunbreaks and sunsets. Again, very cool to hear from you this way!
